Mlup Baitong, literally translated as “green shade”, is a dynamic and respected Cambodian NGO. It was first established in 1998 as a project of an international NGO, to address the problem of deforestation in Cambodia with a focus on educating the general public on conservation of natural resources. In January 2001, Mlup Baitong became independent.

Currently Mlup Baitong employs around 35 Khmer staff and works with about 10 counterparts from communities, pagodas and local authorities. Several Cambodian and foreign volunteers work occasionally for various projects or complete an internship in either the head office in Phnom Penh and in the three provincial sub-offices in Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom and Stung Treng.

HBF is working in cooperation with Mlup Baitong to encourage transparency and broader participation in decision making related to environmental and resource politics. The environmental radio provides an opportunity to facilitate and strengthen the discussion of a large number of people on issues related to the environment and NRM. With HBF’s support, Mlup Baitong will be able to broadcast the radio program. HBF and its partners will further provide thematic inputs to the program, particularly highlighting the role and contribution of women, as well as the situation of indigenous communities.
